Once upon a time all animals lived in peace with Leopard as their king. Amongst these animals only Dog had sharp teeth and claws, so he was mocked for being different. Dog learned early on to keep to himself. While the animals played and had fun together, he would remain in his cave. He would show up only on important occasions
Soon the rains came and Deer who was always so filled with ideas went to the king
Deer : My lord, it would be wise if we all came together and constructed a common shelter for the rainy season instead of individuals building their own tents
Leopard: That is wise, my friend
The king then called a meeting of all the animals to discuss the plans, Dog was present also. While the other animals embraced the plan, Dog did not
Dog : My cave is sufficient for me... he declared
All the animals went to work and soon the shelter was completed, there was a great feast to celebrate this awesome feat
But the rains would prove too stubborn this season, it didn't take long for Dog to realize his cave wasn't close to sufficient, before the waters flooded his cave he made out to the shelter
On getting to the shelter, Deer refused him entry...you have no right to use this shelter because....
Dog knew he wasn't going to win an argument with Deer, he used the only weapon he had..
He jumped on Deer and ripped him apart, as Leopard attempted to attack he was banished by Dog
The other animals quickly flooded to support Dog. They named him "KING"
Now Leopard is alone, an outcast in a realm he once ruled, but his spirit was still very much alive. He would become a hundred times fiercer than Dog and those who had betrayed him would pay dearly.
Leopard searched for the greatest blacksmith in all the lands,... I want the strongest teeth you can make from iron. And I want the most deadly claws you can make from bronze... The blacksmith obliged.. Then he went to Amadioha( god of thunder) : Give me your voice, oh mighty lord of thunder and i will offer sacrifices to you on a daily basis. Amadioha was pleased, he gave his voice to Leopard
Leopard returned to the land he was once King and challenged Dog, he beat Dog mercilessly and when Dog began to retreat he chased after him to the boundary between jungle and the realm of men
Dog went on and made a deal with men..
Dog: i will give the secrets of the jungle to you, i will be your slave. All i ask in return is protection from Leopard
Men agreed
Leopard went back and claimed his throne, as the other animals came to re- swear fealty he killed two of them on the spot.
Leopard: there will be no peace.. not anymore , henceforth i shall rule with fear.... and he has done exactly that ever since...
